From this week’s Galway City Tribune –  Two in every five parking tickets issued in the past year in Galway City were sent in the post, rather than deposited on vehicles’ windscreens.

Galway City Council has confirmed that its community wardens issued a total of 14,253 parking fines or Fixed Penalty Notices from June last year up to May 4 of 2021.

A total of 3,058 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued by post last year and a further 2,886 notices were issued up to May 5 this year.

The figures were obtained by Councillor Níall McNelis. He contacted the Council after a number of complaints from constituents who did not realise they have been illegally parked until the fine arrived by letter in the post.

The Council began issuing more fines by post as a health and safety measure during Covid-19.
