TWO GALWAY MOTORISTS BANNED FROM DRIVING FOR RECEIVING MAXIMUM PENALTY POINTS
Date Published: 22-Dec-2009
Two Galway motorists have been banned from driving for 6 months after being issued with the maximum of 12 penalty points.
The latest figures from the National Safety Council also show that there’s been an increase in the overall number of points issued in the past month.
Forty three more penalty points were issued to drivers in Galway in November.
Speeding remains the highest penalty point earner for Galway motorists, with over 16 thousand points issued to date.
A speeding offence incurs 2 penalty points and a fixed charge of 80 euro.
If this fine is not paid within 28 days, the driver faces a 120 euro fine and the possibility of a court conviction.
Driving while holding a phone is also a big point earner, with 92 more drivers caught in November.
