Two found guilty of assault in Andrew Dolan manslaughter trial to be sentenced in April

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A jury has found two people NOT guilty of the manslaughter of NUIG biomedical engineering student Andrew Dolan, but guilty of his assault.

The 20 year old from Carrick-On-Shannon in County Leitrim died in hospital in Dublin on January 1st 2012 following an assault at Pearse St, Mullingar on December 23rd 2011.

21 year old Jessica Hughes, of Greenfield Heights, Rathwire, Killucan, Co Westmeath, and 23 year old Patrick Daly, of Mulphedder, Clonard, Co Meath were both charged with the manslaughter of Andrew Dolan.

This evening, the jury of seven men and five women found both of them NOT guilt of manslaughter, but they found Jessica Hughes guilty of assault, and Patrick Daly guilty of assault causing harm.

The jury at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, sitting in Tullamore, had begun deliberations on Tuesday.

Jessica Hughes and Patrick Daly will be sentenced on April 7th.
