TURF CUTTERS GROUP CALLS FOR INQUIRY

The Turf Cutters and Contractors Association, which represents many Galway bog owners, is seeking to establish an inquiry into the implementation of the Habitats Directive.

The group which opposes the ban on cutting in special areas of conservation is calling for an independent commission of inquiry headed by a High Court judge.

12 bog complexes across County Galway are impaced by the ban – about a quarter of the number of designated boglands nationally.
