TUAM TEACHER CALLS FOR SCHOOLS TO GET INVOLVED IN GRADUATION NIGHTS
Date Published: 23-May-2008
The Vice Principal of St Jarlath’s College in Tuam says the time has come for schools to get involved in organising student graduation nights.
Joe Long was speaking in the aftermath of a cancelled graduation night which caused chaos in Tuam last night, forcing one licenced premised to shut early and left hundreds of teenagers roaming the streets.
The Vice-principal rang Castlerea Gardai in advance of St Jarlath’s college graduation night when he learned underage students as young as 14 planned to attend.
Two nightclubs refused to host the event at the last minute when they discovered it was not organised by the school authorities and would be unsupervised.
Joe Long told Galway Bay FM news it was time for schools to play a role in organising safe graduation nights.
