Date Published: 06-Apr-2011
Superintendent Gearóid Begley of Tuam Garda Station has been charged with establishing the facts in the case surrounding comments about rape, allegedly made by Gardaí.
Two separate investigations are underway following allegations that a Sergeant and two Gardaí joked about raping two women.
It followed a Shell-to-Sea protest in Mayo in which two women were arrested for public order offences.
According to today’s Irish Independent, the Garda Ombudsman Commission launched a public interest inquiry.
Superintendent Gearóid Begley of Tuam Garda Station has been charged with finding out the facts of the case and reporting back to the Garda Commissioner.
He has already moved to interview the three Gardaí at the centre of the controversy.
