Tuam Stadium project achieves its goal

A millionaire businessman has come to the aid of his local town and team – by digging deep to help build a new stand for their famed GAA Stadium.

Joe O’Toole, a staunch follower of the GAA, has agreed to financially support the redevelopment of Tuam Stadium with the provision of a new roof on the old stand – regularly referred to as the ‘old hayshed’ – along with new seating for 1,700 spectators.

Once the project is costed, works are expected to start early in the New Year, bringing an end to the eyesore that is currently the stand at Tuam Stadium – much to the delight of GAA followers.

The new roof and seating will compliment the four new dressing rooms currently nearing completion.

The owner of SuperValu in Tuam – who used to cycle from beyond Headford to Tuam Stadium in the sixties to attend matches – agreed to fund the provision of a new roof on the stand and seating after visiting the Stadium in recent months.

The current development of the dressing rooms and the reinstatement of terracing had been undertaken by Development Advocates for Tuam Stadium (DAFTS).
