A Tuam man who trespassed at a city house – forcing the owners to lock themselves in their bedroom – has been handed down a six-month suspended sentence.

33-year-old Martin Conroy of 54 Woodfield, Galway Road, Tuam pleaded guilty to trespassing at the house in Ashe Road, Shantalla last March.

Galway District Court was told of a previous conviction for robbery and possession of a fake gun in May 1997.

The married father-of-two was sentenced to ten years behind bars on that occasion but was released after serving four.

Taking this into consideration, Judge Mary Fahy handed down a six month suspended prison sentence.

It was suspended for a year-and-a-half on condition that Conroy be of good behaviour and stay away from Shantalla.
