TUAM MAN JAILED AS ACCOMPLICE IN MUGGING
Date Published: 14-Dec-2007
A Circuit Court Judge has jailed a Tuam man who was an accomplice to the mugging of a 32 year old engineer in August last year.
Before Galway Circuit Criminal Court this week was 26 year old Gary Taylor of Ballinakilla, Togher, Tuam who accompanied Shane Mannion when robbing the victim at RosChaoin, Roscam.
Gary Taylor had been at home in bed in Tuam earlier that night when 20 year old Shane Mannion rang him from Galway saying he could not get a lift home.
Taylor, who was sober, drove into Galway and collected Mannion and a juvenile.
On the way home they spotted the victim walking alone and Mannion decided to rob him while the other two agreed to help.
Judge Raymond Groarke told Taylor that he was sober at the time of the offence and he had no excuse for going along with Mannion who was drunk.
The Judge said he had a major difficulty in trying to differentiate between both accused, even though Taylor had not hit the victim as Mannion had done.
He sentenced Taylor to six months in prison, which was backdated to November 26 last, when the accused was first taken into custody.
