TUAM AMBULANCE BASE OPERATIONAL BY NOVEMBER
Date Published: 04-Sep-2012
Tuam’s new ambulance base is to be operational by November.
However, it will not be in service 24 hours a day.
Paudie O’Riordan of the Western Health Board told a meeting of Tuam town council that it will initially operate 3 or 4 days a week.
The meeting was told that the new ambulance base will be manned by existing staff but the Western Health Board will be battling to get additional staff to enable it to eventually become a 7 days a week operation
The ambulance services official told the meeting that one amblance will operate out of Tuam and the advantage is that the town will have a state-of-the art facility leading to a much improved service.
Councillor Paul O’Grady asked if they lobbied senior politicians for the additional money would it help with the service becoming 24 hours a day.
Mr O’Riordan replied that while they would battle for additional staff they needed to dwell on the positives for now and Tuam was getting what was probably the most modern state-of-the-art ambulance base in the country.
