Trixie is the only turkey in Ireland who would vote for Christmas!

The luckiest turkey in the land will be spared the oven once more this December 25 – for the third year in a row.

And after the ordeal she has had this year, almost getting gobbled up by a fearsome fox, Galway’s favourite feathered friend deserves to be off the menu this festive season.

Regular readers will recall that Trixie, a resident of St Mary’s nursing home in Shantalla in Galway city, was due to be cooked for residents’ dinner two Christmases ago.

But fate and a broken wing intervened to save Trixie from the Christmas chop – she was put on a course of antibiotics . . . and turkeys on medication cannot be eaten.

The residents then became very attached to Trixie and voted overwhelmingly to give her a reprieve again for Christmas 2014.

This year has been a particularly tough one for Trixie, who, having avoided death by cooking for two years in a row, almost fell victim to a fox, who attacked Trixie and her feathered friends.

Trixie suffered some damage in the attack but she has re-grown the feathers that were bitten off. And she won’t be getting stuffed this Christmas.
