TRIBUTES PAID TO BRAVE GARDAI WHO FOILED LACKAGH RAID

Tributes are being paid this morning to the unarmed Gardaí who foiled a raid on a family home in Lackagh, Turloughmore on Sunday night.

The ordeal began just before 9 o’ clock on Sunday night, when 5 members of a gang, believed to be from Dublin, forced their way into the home of Julien and Emma Flynn.

Julien and Emma Flynn and their 4 young children were held at gunpoint in their home on Sunday night.

Two relatives, who lived nearby, who arrived at the house a short time later, wre also held up.

Two Gardaí also arrived at the scene on foot of concern by Emma Flynn’s mother,Colette Whelan, who had been on the phone to Emma when the raiders broke in.

One of the Gardaí was former Galway goalkeeper, Alan Keane from Barnaderg.

Both Garda Keane and his colleague a female Garda, based at Oranmore station, are being hailed as heroes after they managed to overpower the armed gang, despite being threatened.

Two men are still being held at Galway Garda Station in the city this morning in relation to a raid,

Meanwhile a third man, who injured himself while fleeing the scene is under Garda surveillance at University Hospital Galway.
