Tributes have been pouring in for a well-known former Galway camóige player and her husband who were killed in a road accident in the United States at the weekend.

44 year old Anne Coleman, originally from Abbeyknockmoy and her 50 year old husband Joe O’ Connell were killed in the crash in Iowa on Sunday evening.

The family had been living in the nearby town of Madison in Wisconsin.

Both Ann and her husband, Joe, were well-known in GAA circles.

Ann Coleman was an accomplished camóige player and won a Junior Title with the Galway Camoige team in 1988.

She also played camóige with Castlegar, St. Coleman’s in Gort, Athenry and Glen Rovers in Cork.

She’s the sister of former Galway footballer, Mattie Coleman and former Galway hurler, Michael Coleman.

Her husband Joe O’ Connell was a former Kerry hurler.

The couple’s three children were treated in hospital for injuries.

The single vehicle crash occurred when the driver lost control of the car and it flipped over, rolling twice.

The Abbeyknockmoy and GAA community in Galway are shocked and saddened at the news of the tragic double death.
