TRIAL DATE FOR ALLEGED TUAM SEXUAL ASSAULT

A man charged with the sexual assault of a woman in Tuam over three years ago is to face trial in May.

The 47-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, is also charged with assaulting the woman with intent to cause her harm on the same date of June 27th 2008.

The accused, who suffers from schizophrenia, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity at Galway Circuit Criminal Court in January.

A jury will be sworn in for his trial on May 1st.
