Transport Minister rules out light rail system for Galway
Transport Minister Shane Ross has no interest in putting plans for a Galway Luas back on track.
Minister Ross quoting a Galway City Council report, citing “insufficient demand to justify the significant additional cost” of developing a GLUAS system.
He was responding to questions in Dáil Éireann from Independent Roscommon/ Galway TD, Michael Fitzmaurice, who asked about the possibility of a light rail system in Galway.
Minister Ross said the National Transport Authority (NTA) prepared a transport strategy for the city in partnership with both Galway City and County Councils.
This sets out the 20-year overall framework for the development of transport infrastructure and services in Galway City and its environs
It came into force in 2017, after being included in the new City Development Plan.
