Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway to Dublin and Dublin to Galway train service is running on time this morning despite major problems last evening and night

The 5.30pm Dublin to Galway train was almost four hours late arriving at Ceannt station at 11.30pm

The journey from Heuston station to Ceannt station took a total of 6 hours instead of the scheduled 2 hours twenty minutes

Disgruntled passengers were forced to undergo long periods of the train standing still between stations during a very warm evening

Irish Rail spokesperson Jane Cregan told Galway Bay fm news this morning that the unprecedented delay was caused by a series of problems on the route

The first took place at 3pm when an on track machine broke down at Sallins and Newbridge while later there was a signal fault at Cherryville

Up to Athenry the train was running 3 hours twenty minutes late but a lorry striking the bridge at Lough Atalia forced a twenty minute delay into Ceannt station as the bridge was repaired
