TRADE UNION SECURES STAY ON AVIVA REDUNDANCIES
Date Published: 29-Nov-2011
No redundancy notices will be served on any AVIVA staff until the final outline of the company restructuring is made clear.
That’s according to UNITE trade union who is meeting with staff in Dublin this lunchtime and at the call centre in Knocknacarra this afternoon.
This will give some clarity for staff who feared the loss of their job before Christmas, as no job losses are expected until at least March.
A leaked report last month suggested that all 26 branches, including the Eyre Square branch which employs 10 people are to close by June of next year.
It was also revealed that a call centre will be maintained in Galway to deal with claims, direct sales and support.
The call centre in Knocknacarra employs over 200 staff, and it’s being speculated that this facility will remain intact.
UNITE spokesperson Brian Gallagher says the threat of strike action is still on the table.
