Town Hall Theatre seeking two young curators for June Festival

Galway’s Town Hall Theatre is seeking young curators for a special festival that will run across in eight theatre venues countrywide in June. The festival is “being programmed by young people for young people”, says Town Hall Director, Fergal McGrath.

If you are aged between 18 and 29, with an interest in the arts and would like to help create a small programme of events, this could be your chance. The closing date is next Monday, March 29, at 5pm.

The Town Hall is looking for two people to help plan the programme for this festival. The two chosen will be supported by a staff member at the Town Hall as well as receiving support from two arts practitioners. These mentors will give guidance on programming and on negotiating deals, and will also assist the guest curators in establishing connections with artists.

The two will have an opportunity to connect with curators chosen by the Town Hall’s seven partner venues in the NASC network, sharing ideas and information on programming opportunities. They will also be given a programme budget to manage.

“We’ll kick off with an introductory session in April, at which three young curators will share their experience and learning from last year’s Young Curators’ Festival at the Backstage Theatre in Longford,” explains Fergal McGrath.

This year’s project will require intensive and regular online meetings and research between April 1 and early June to develop the programme which will be delivered in mid-June, he adds. The time commitment will be about five hours a week, with an agreed fee/expenses to be paid.
