Good news...Loughrea Town Hall.

An iconic building in Loughrea is to undergo a €2.2 million revamp to transform it from its dilapidated state into a new arts space and community hub.

The building, which had fallen into disrepair over the past 30 years, is to benefit from funding under the Rural Regeneration Fund; the project will be delivered within a two year period.

The funding was announced by Minister Sean Canney who has described it as ‘a game-changer’ for Loughrea and particularly as it has the potential to create some 75 new jobs.

The old Town Hall will be transformed into a 158-seater theatre along with multifunctional arts space as well as being developed as a community and tourist hub.

Minister Canney said that the vast majority of funding for the project will be provided by his Department of Rural and Community Development which was announced yesterday (Wednesday).

The funding that will be provided will go towards the major restoration and refurbishment of the Town Hall in Loughrea as well as measures being undertaken to enhance Barrack Street.
