Tuam is not being targeted as a location for biogas plants, a meeting of the town council was told this week.

Councillor Pat O’Hora raised the question of whether Tuam is being singled out for waste disposal plants.

He said if this is the case, it would be damaging for the IDA’s efforts in getting other industries for the town.

Any suggestion that Tuam was being singled out for biogas plants was rubbished by Director of Services Frank Gilmore who said every application is judged on its merits by both the County Council and An Bord Pleanala.

He added that there is no specific targeting of any area but a developer, or an individual, has the right to lodge an application for any project and it is judged individually on its merits by the local authority in accordance with the county development plan.
