Traditional musicians, Matt Molloy and John Carty will play the main stage at Monroe’s on Tuesday, January 27 as part of their Winter Rambles tour, when they will be joined by Arty McGlynn and Brian McGrath.
Both John and Matt play music that is rooted in the fiddle and flute tradition of North Connacht and both have received the prestigious TG4 Musician of the Year Award.
Flute player Matt, who has been a member of the groups such as Chieftains, the Bothy Band and Planxty, is one of Ireland’s best known and most highly regarded musicians
London-born John Carty, who now lives in Roscommon, is equally skilled playing the flute, banjo and tenor guitar. With several solo albums to his name, he has performed at major festivals throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
The two will be joined on stage by Arty McGlynn who is renowned for his traditional guitar playing. He has collaborated with groups such as Patrick Street, Planxty, Four Men and a Dog, De Dannan and the Van Morrison Band.
Banjo, guitar and mandolin player Brian McGrath will complete the line-up. Currently a member of De Dannan, Brian has played with At the Racket and the Sean Keane band, among others.

The two have a solid musical background, touring for many years with artists such as The Chieftains and supporting country legends John Prine and Charlie Daniels. Their repertoire is a mix of folk, country and original songs.
The Black Berries plan to perform in some of the major folk and country festivals this year, while also putting down tracks for their debut album.
