Top names in Irish music for An Taibhdhearc gigs
Folk-rock band Scullion will be in concert at An Taibhdhearc this Saturday night, April 16, the firs in a series of concerts being held in the popular venue.
Iarla Ó Lionáird and Steve Cooney will be on stage on Saturday, April 23, at 8pm and Rónán Ó Snodaigh and Myles O’Reilly will be at the venue on Saturday, May 14, at 8pm.
It’s as part of a series of musical events being organised by Fíbín Theatre Company, which has taken up residency in the Irish-language city theatre.
The Artistic Director of Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc, Philip Doherty is in charge of creating the musical programme and the shows are being run by former Sawdoctor Pearse Doherty, who has extensive experience in event management.
An Taibhdhearc has a strong musical tradition and has long been renowned as a concert venue, according to Philip.
International performers who have played there include renowned musicians Daniel Lanois and Josh Ritter, while just about every Irish musician on the scene has graced its stage.
Now, after lying idle for several years, the theatre is back in action as a concert venue.
“The Taibhdhearc auditorium is beautiful and with just 140 seats, it’s an intimate venue, one that musicians adore playing in,” said Philip Doherty. “Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc wanted to kickstart our musical programme by putting on the finest contemporary Irish groups; musicians who could carry on or bring forward the musical heritage of an Taibhdhearc.
