Top names from TV drama for city course

After the success of last year’s Talking TV Drama seminar, Galway Film Centre will be running a similar event on next Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6 in the city’s Radisson Hotel.

Participants this year include Bryan Cogman, the executive story editor and writer on HBO’s Game of Thrones, who will take part in a two-day seminar focused on writing drama for television.

The series Game of Thrones, which is based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, has acquired huge acclaim since its inception. The show which was recently nominated for 11 Emmys, is shot mainly in Belfast. An in-depth interview with Bryan Cogman will be conducted on Saturday, October 6 by GMIT Film and TV lecturer, Felim Mac Dermott.

Also confirmed for the seminar is Hans Rosenfeldt, writer on Swedish-Danish crime drama, The Bridge. He will take part in a masterclass on Scandinavian Crime Writing for TV, along with Richard Cottan, writer of Wallander UK.

Other writing talent from around the world will also be participating. Torchwood, Kumars at No. 42, Dr Who, Waking the Dead, Raw and Primeval are some of the many shows worked on by those attending the event. Organisations represented will include Disney Channel UK, STV, Channel 4, Kudos, TG4, the Irish Film Board and RTÉ.

Talking TV Drama 2012 will comprise panel discussions, workshops and public interviews and is run in partnership with GMIT, Fás Screen Training Ireland and the BAI. All are welcome to this event, writers, film-makers and enthusiasts alike.
