CITY TRIBUNE
Top-class free concerts with Ceol an tSamhraidh
There’s a musical treat in store on Inis Oírr next Saturday, June 11, when the island will host an outdoor concert, headlined by the Máirtín O Connor Trio. It’s starting at 8pm. Galwayman Máirtín is one of the best-loved musicians on the Irish trad and folk scene and has been collaborating with long-term band members Séamie O’Dowd (guitars, vocals) and Cathal Hayden (fiddle) for many years. Support will come from some of the fine musicians who live on Inis Oírr.
And on Sunday, June 12, Clifden’s Station House Theatre is the venue for folk/Americana trio, The Raines. That’s also starting at 8pm
The Raines formed in 2019 made up of Ruth Dillon, Juliana Erkkonen and Yvonne Tiernan, who have a wealth of experience, working individually and with other musical outfits. The three musicians and singers have used this experience and their varied influences to write strong, melodic songs which involve distinctive vocal harmonies and counter melody backed by delicate and rhythmic music on guitar, violin and ukulele. Their skills are clearly on display on Another Lover, their fourth single which has just been released.
