Tommy Fleming and his band will be in concert in Galway’s Radisson Blu Hotel on Sunday, February 1, at 8pm.

The show will include performances of songs from Tommy’s latest album, The West’s Awake, which was released last October.

The West’s Awake was one of the best-selling Irish releases of 2014 and has been in the top ten in the Irish charts since October.

It was recorded in London last summer and produced by Mike Moran, who has contributed to some of the world’s best-selling albums and has worked with such legends as Freddie Mercury, Queen and Annie Lennox. In addition, he has also written many global hits including Don’t Stop Me Now and Barcelona.

The songs on The West’s Awake were largely penned by Irish writers.  They include both orchestral and acoustic version of a special song written by Brendan Graham called I Rest In You. On this track, Tommy is accompanied by Mike Moran on piano.

Other tracks include John O’ Dreams, written by English folk singer Bill Caddick to music by Tchaikovsky; Remember Me written by Phil Coulter; and Angel written by Christy Hennessy. Another song, Shine on Me, was written by Tommy, Linda Burrage and Mike Moran. And there’s the anthemic title track, so associated with Galway, The West’s Awake.

Musicians on the album include the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and fine London session musicians, under Mike Moran’s direction.

The singing career of Sligo-born Tommy has spanned 25 years since he first took to the stage with Galway’s De Dannan. In that time he has won  fans in Ireland and abroad for his versions of songs such as Danny Boy, Raglan Road and The Contender.  He performs regularly in Australia where he has a multi-album deal with ABC and was most recently there supporting Elaine Paige on her tour in November and December.

Tickets for his Galway concert are on sale at the Radisson Blu Reception 091 538300; Zhivago OMG, Shop Street, Galway; at www.ticketmaster.ie and www.tommyfleming.com.
