Just over a week after selling out six venues across the city as part of the Bulmers Galway Comedy Festival, Barna based comedian Tommy Tiernan has announced an eight date ‘World Tour of Galway’ in the run-up to Christmas.

Beginning in Clifden on December 12, and ending in Loughrea on December 22, Ireland’s most popular comedian will include dates in Gort, Ballinasloe, Galway (Seapoint), Athenry, Claregalway, and Tuam, during his midwinter tour of his adopted county.

Tiernan began his career as a comedian during an ‘Open Mic’ slot in Galway in 1994 and has continued to live locally despite his massive international success in the intervening years.

Combining a gamey eye for the absurd, with a keen sense of the everyman, Tommy’s new show is a mix of subtle observations and an indignant rage at the state of himself and the land we live in.

His six shows at six different venues during last month’s Comedy Festival were the first to sell out and he also delighted punters by taking part in the event’s tricky Set List shows – in which comedians are given just five words to play with at short notice – at the Róisín Dubh.

The Galway tour includes shows at the Stationhouse Theatre, Clifden (Dec 12); the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort (Dec 13); Carlton Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe (Dec 14); Seapoint, Salthill (Dec 15); Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry (Dec 19); Claregalway Hotel (Dec 20); Ard Rí House Hotel, Tuam (Dec 21); and Loughrea Hotel and Spa (Dec 22).
