Time for a little rendezvous with the joys of springtime

It’s quite a challenge to stay in any kind of upbeat mood these days. No sooner have we seen off (well, at least partially) the challenges posed by everything from Brexit to Covid-19 than a needless barbaric war campaign is embarked upon by probably the biggest threat to the future of our world, in the shape of one Vladimir Putin.

No, I’m not about to embark on an analysis of the world’s problems, rather the opposite, as it can be seriously disconcerting to keep on being saturated with news which most times can be so horrific that it just sucks the spirit from your soul.

And all this as we approach the midpoint of a month where we should be filling our hearts with the joys of Spring as the days stretch out like a relaxed dog after a good night’s sleep.

I’ve often espoused the virtues of February, but this year our second month let me down somewhat, taking on an egregious tone with above-average rainfall as well as setting a new record thanks to the arrival of three storms in one week.

Now, March is left to pick up the pieces, and what a spectacular day of blue skies its first day brought us last week to usher in the start of meteorological Spring.

The beginning of the New Year’s first season has always been an academic issue between meteorologists, astronomers, farmers, teachers, theologians, and academics.
