Thousands welcome minors home

Thousands of people turned out in Eyre Square last evening to welcome home the newly crowned All-Ireland minor football champions, Galway.
There were great scenes of joy as manager Alan Mulholland, his backroom team, and the class of 2007 arrived by train and subsequently joined City Mayor Tom Costello and other local political and sporting dignitaries at the homecoming.
Galway had captured their sixth All-Ireland title at this grade at Croke Park on Sunday, when they struck for a late 57th minute goal through Damien Reddington to snatch a dramatic victory on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-9.
In addition to being showcased in front of a boisterous crowd, manager Mulholland and Renmore teenager and captain Paul Conroy addressed the gathering, as did Mayor Costello and County Board Chairman Gerry Larkin.
