Thousands descend on city for first day of Galway Races

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Thousands of visitors have descended on the city for the start of the Galway Racing Festival today.
More than 150 thousand people are expected to attend the racecourse in Ballybrit over the 7-day festival.
Hotels in Galway are sponsoring most of the races at today’s evening meeting.
The gates open to the racecourse at about 2.45 this afternoon with the first race going to post at 10 past 5.
The adult ticket price for this evening is 20 euro; it’ll be 25 euro tomorrow and Wednesday, 30 euro on Ladies Day, 25 euro for Friday evening’s meeting and 20 euro for both Saturday an Sunday.
Bus Éireann will operate a regular shuttle bus service from Eyre Square each day of the festival, while Iarnród Éireann is putting on extra trains for Galway Plate Day and Ladies Day on Wednesday and Thursday.
Manager of Galway Races John Maloney, says the going is good and there will be some sporting heroes at this evening’s meeting in Ballybrit.
