‘Third Policeman’ on visit to Black Box Theatre
Actor Phelim Drew will be in the Black Box Theatre this Friday, June 17, to give a special reading from Flann O’Brien’s classic, The Third Policeman. The reading, in an intimate setting, will be accompanied by a live music to a score written by Belfast composer Colin Reid. Music will be performed by Colin on piano, Lizzy Kelly on fiddle and Rozzie Curlett and Dave Edmonds on cello.
This adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s darkly comic tale of murder and retribution, set in a surreal village populated by mysterious policemen and people who are ‘part people, part bicycles’, was described by Radio Ulster as ‘an exceptional event.’
Flann O’Brien’s brilliantly dark comic novel about the nature of time, death, and existence, is told by a narrator who has committed a botched robbery and brutal murder. Published on the eve of World War II, it never received the recognition it deserved and this show is a must for all fans of O’Brien.
