THIRD HIGHEST NUMBER OF ROAD DEATHS IN GALWAY
Date Published: 15-Nov-2009
Galway has the third highest number of road deaths in the country.
That’s according to statistics from the Road safety Authority.
The figures show that in 2008, 20 people lost their lives on Galway roads.
Cork had the highest number of fatalities with 26, while in Dublin 23 people died on roads.
Today is World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims, and since records began in 1959 more than 22 thousand people have been killed on Irish roads.
Prayers are being said at masses across the country today to mark the event, including a special mass in Drogheda, and a service at Knock Shrine this afternoon.
Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority says we must continue to improve our standards in road safety
