The Village – dramatic exploration of place

The Village, a play with music and dance, will be staged in an intimate setting at the Black Box Theatre next Friday, May 20, at 8pm.

It’s a new work from Ériu Dance Company and is the latest initiative between Galway’s Town Hall Theatre and the company which was set up in 2010 by dancer and choreographer Breandán de Gallaí. Breandán is still its artistic director as Ériu celebrates and pushes the boundaries of the Irish dance tradition.

In The Village, five strangers gather on a hill overlooking the townland where they grew up. As they watch the lights go out over this place, it’s not clear what draws them back home, what brings them together here now and what connects them – other than The Village. They have a shared experience of the ‘geography’ of their home, but their common ground ends there.

Tickets for the 70-minute show are €20/€18, online at tht.ie, by phone from 091-569777 or from the box office.
