The Eye Cinema in Wellpark in Galway City is welcoming back The Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra to its screens this year.

The 2016/2017 Live via satellite season will kick off this Friday, August 26, with The Season Opening Concert at 5.30pm conducted by the internationally acclaimed Sir Simon Rattle, and featuring Pierre Boulez’s Éclat and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 7.

This will be followed by the New Year’s Eve Concert, again conducted by Rattle, and starring the dazzing young pianist Daniil Trifonov with a programme including Rachmaninov, Walton and Dvořák. The concert will broadcast live at 4pm on Saturday December 31.

There will be a rousing finale to the cinema season on Friday June 9, with conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading the orchestra in a programme including Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor From the New World.

Widely regarded as the greatest symphony orchestra in the world, the Berlin Philharmonic is the standard setter for excellence in orchestral performance and programming.

Early booking and arrival is strongly advised for all these performances.
