The Alice Collective go all out for Cloughanover show
The ALICE Collective presents a concert by Mary Cahir, with special guest Kathrina Hughes in Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, this Saturday, March 12.
The Collective started as a ‘flash of inspired thinking’ in late 2014, according to Mary.
“I was thinking about singing songs and making music; making music with others, maybe I could collaborate with different people?” she says. “Ever evolving themes, changing the mix. Now it’s happening, from that one stream of consciousness.?
“Singer-songwriters telling a story,” are among Mary’s inspirations, she says.
“The reflection and interpretation of life through music. I admire Sinéad O’Connor, Leonard Cohen, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan. I’m inspired by the great people of 1916, who made change happen Not accepting the status quo.”
Are there any more shows planned, or recordings?
“We’re going all out for this gig, nothing else planned specifically but I’m open to it. Maybe one day the elements in the Collective will be right there and I will feel compelled to go to a studio. For now, it’s all about the gig in Campbell’s Tavern. We have [multi-instrumental New Zealander] Geoff Ward with us.”
Finally, what can punters expect from Kathrina Hughes?
“Some new original songs, a collaboration on the night and some unexpected musical manoeuvres! Kathrina puts her own stamp on songs and often laces an understated humour into her lyrics.”
Doors for the gig are 9.30pm, tickets €10, with €2 from each ticket going to Kilcoona National School.
