Broadcaster Terry Wogan witnessed an horrific beheading in Galway yesterday while filming street scenes for his up and coming new television series.

Mr Wogan had specifically requested to see the re-enactment of the execution of King Charles 1 outside The Kings Head pub in High Street.

This has been staged before in an historical context to commemorate how The Kings Head became the property of an Irish man. It was his reward for killing the English monarch.

The twenty minute re-enactment, complete with period costumes, swords, blood and gore, was produced and directed by Rod Goodall with a cast of 20.

The family friendly show drew a huge crowd yesterday afternoon with many so engrossed in the drama that they didn’t notice Mr Wogan among the onlookers.

It was hoped that the veteran broadcaster, in Galway to shoot scenes forTerry Wogan’s Ireland, his new series to be broadcast in the Autumn, might step in and play a small part but he chose to remain in the audience where he was “suitably horrified” throughout the twenty minute show, according to one of the production members.
