TENANTS TURN DOWN CITY HOUSING

Tenants are turning down social housing in the city because of conditions in estates.

This week’s meeting of Galway city council heard that a minority of tenants are not taking on properties because of anti-social behaviour in certain areas.

Tenants who refuse social housing face the prospect of waiting an extra year to get another offer.

Councillor Padraig Coneely says the system is unfair and that tenants who have no choice but to refuse should not be penalised.
