Teens get chance to display talent via underage Open Mic
Open Mic night, which takes place at the Róisín Dubh on Sunday evenings, has been running for five years and has become something of an institution in the city, and a mainstay of weekend entertainment.
With artists regularly travelling from all over Ireland to come and play to a full house, it is one of the most popular open mics in the country.
Hosted by local musicians Tracy Bruen and Steven Sharpe, it has supported and launched the careers of many of Galway’s finest musicians and comedians, including Pa Reidy, who recently released his second album.
On Sunday, November 29, at 3.00pm Tracy and Steve will host the venue’s first ever underage Open Mic. They are inviting all musicians and comedians of secondary-school age to apply to play on the main stage for the event.
A full back-line with drum kit, acoustic guitar and stage piano will be provided for musicians. Bands and solo musicians of all genres as well as comedians are invited to join in the fun and OMG have sponsored a €25 voucher for the winners. The event is strictly alcohol free.
Interested artists are asked to contact openmicgalway@gmail.com by November 27 to apply to play.
