Galway Bay fm newsroom – Noel Daly took on the voluntary role two years ago, but has resigned following allegations by Sinn Féin about a conflict of interest.
Mr. Daly is a shareholder in a private healthcare company which carried out a survey of maternity services for the hospitals group.
In a statement, Noel Daly says he took the decision to resign as chairperson because he does not want his personal and professional reputation or the reputation of the group compromised in any way.
Deputy Denis Naughton says he believes there are now questions hanging over the maternity services report which was commissioned by the company.
Meanwhile, Galway Sinn Féin Senator, Trevor O’ Clochartaigh says CEO of the Hospitals Group, Bill Maher also has questions to answer about the appointment of the chairperson.
