TAXI DRIVERS DEFEND CITY CENTRE PROTEST
Date Published: 01-Apr-2009
Galway taxi drivers say that today’s protest is an effort to protect their livelihood.
Over forty taxi drivers protested today at the Eyre Square rank and also at the bridge street rank during a two hour work stoppage.
Roof signs were placed lengthways on top of cars, and drivers handed out informative flyers to the public.
The Galway taxi association organised the protest, who say they want better working conditions for drivers and a suspension on the number of licenses being issued.
In a symbolic gesture, Jim Parsloe of the GTA also placed a copy of the Goodbody report into a rubbish bin.
