Taxi booking smartphone app to launch in Galway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s hoped a smartphone application which can automatically hail a taxi closest to your location, will be launched in Galway in time for this year’s Racing festival.
The Hailo app, which is in operation in Dublin and Cork, has been downloaded a quarter of a million times in Ireland.
The smartphone application detects your location and finds the closest taxis to you, assigning one to your booking.
You get an estimated time of arrival, the taxi driver’s licence number and their photo.
According to the Irish Times, more than 200 drivers have signed up to the hailo service in Ireland so far, which is in operation in Dublin and Cork.
It’s due to be rolled out in Limerick this summer and in Galway in time for the racing festival at Ballybrit, one of the busiest times of the year for taxis.
