Taoiseach Enda Kenny says the government is committed to resolving the overcrowding crisis at University Hospital Galway.

Speaking during an official visit to the city last evening, he said a special delivery unit is one of the measures being taken to reduce trolley waiting times.

Earlier this week, full capacity protocol was implemented again at UHG where over 50 people were without beds at the emergency unit.

The Taoiseach told Galway Bay fm news that 345 thousand euro was released last week to deal with increasing the capacity of the acute medicine area at UHG and the opening of St. Mary’s ward.

He said the trolley waiting times at UHG are not satisfactory but are being addressed.
