Taoiseach recognises VEC contribution to Galway
The Taoiseach has formally recognised the VEC’s contribution to education in Galway.
Enda Kenny planted a tree at a schools site in Doughiska last evening, to mark its presence in Galway for the past 83 years.
The VEC’s nationwide will be replaced by 16 educational training boards this Summer.
The Taoiseach planted the tree at the site of the new Merlin College Secondary School and Merlin Woods Primary School where he officiated at a brick laying ceremony.
The project is a public private partnership project and is due to reach completion by spring next year, catering for up to 700 secondary school students and 400 primary school students.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news at the Doughiska site, Enda Kenny said the campus will be key for the surrounding areas for years to come
