Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says he regrets that Galway’s water crisis isn’t fully resolved but he hopes that it will be soon.

Mr Ahern was speaking in Galway this afternoon at the official opening of the 22 million euro Killanin Stand at Ballybrit Racecourse

A water filter system costing 150,000 euro has been installed at the Racecourse so that racegoers can drink from the tap at the Races in 3 weeks time.

Today it was announced by the Health Service Executive that the boil water notice won’t be lifted in the city or in Barna and Moycullen for another few weeks

However it has now been lifted in county areas west of the city including Tuam, Claregalway, Athenry and Oranmore, where 20,000 households are served by the now fully upgraded Luimnagh plant

Mr Ahern says he hopes the water situation will be resolved shortly as the public has been greatly inconvenienced.
