TANAISTE MEETS INDIAN AMBASSADOR OVER UHG DEATH
Date Published: 16-Nov-2012
The Indian Ambassador to Ireland Debashish Chakravarti came to Iveagh house to express what he says is the angst of the people over the death of Savita Halappanavar.
Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore says he was struck by the outpouring of grief and sympathy of Irish people in the past few days and he conveyed that back.
Eamon Gilmore says as far as he’s concerned legal clarity’s now needed on medical terminations – saying doing nothing is not an option.
But Speaking in Galway, An Taoiseach was adamant there was a need for rational and truthful debate yet the Tánaiste’s adamant dealing with this issue now is required:
That’s a view shared by Health Minister James Reilly.
Eamon Gilmore also says he’s open to meeting Praveen Halappanavar or any of the family.
