Talos works through the layers to paint electronic soundscapes

He’s better known by his alter-ego Talos – but whatever you call him, Eoin French is the sort of contemporary musician that typifies the evolution of production and songwriting in the last twenty years.  With influences ranging from Kanye West and Tame Impala to Talk Talk and Kate Bush, Eoin – or Talos – creates electronic soundscapes packed with emotion and intricate instrumentation.

His new studio album, Far Out, is a stunning representation of his ability as well, perhaps, as his growing confidence as an artist.

Talos plays Galway’s Róisín Dubh on Friday, April 26, as part of an Irish stopover between dates in China and the US.

It’s been a hectic couple of years for the Corkman since the release of his hugely successful debut album Wild Alee in 2017.

With tracks like This Is Us Colliding and Odyssey amassing millions of streams on Spotify, Talos quickly earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s most inventive and authentic musicians.

Wild Alee was nominated for RTÉ Choice Music Prize, Irish Album of the Year and it’s easy to see why. The album took Eoin almost four years to perfect and he worked on it almost entirely alone, helped only by producer Ross Dowling.

It started with an unfortunate interruption to a different, promising career.

Set to take his dream job as an architect in Los Angeles, Eoin’s girlfriend fell ill with what turned out to be tuberculosis. The couple were prevented from flying and Eoin was left stranded in Cork.

The songs began to flow through a combination of boredom and frustration – there was nothing else to do.
