‘Talk to Joe’ as IFA gets back on track

GALWAY’S National IFA President Joe Healy has got a strong endorsement from his own county as the mid-term review of the association’s top positions clicks into place over the coming months.

The mid-term review of terms of office was introduced following the pay controversy towards the end of 2015 that led to the resignation of then IFA President Eddie Downey.

That controversy arose following the disclosure of the salary and severance package for former General Secretary of the Association, Pat Smith, worth in excess of €1 million.

Last week, at the Galway Co. Executive meeting there was unanimous approval for the nomination of current president, Joe Healy, to continue on with his job for the next two years.

Galway IFA Chairman, Pat Murphy, told the Farming Tribune, that there had been an overwhelmingly positive response to Joe Healy’s term in office, something that had boosted the stock of the IFA and the entire farming community.

“I suppose we just have to compare how things were then and how they are now. We just have to think of where we were then, where we are now, and where Joe Healy wants to take us into the future.

“Coming up to the end of 2015, things were at a very low ebb in the IFA and it was a huge job to try and lift morale again, but I think that all would agree Joe Healy has done a magnificent job in restoring credibility to the association,” said Pat Murphy.
