Tales of the Unseen at Town Hall Theatre
Award-winning circus companies Riuchi and Squarehead will present a double-bill, Tales of the Unseen, at the Town Hall Theatre this Saturday night, June 18, at 8pm.
These are two very different pieces – Riuchi’s is based on an old Asian tale, while Squarehead – aka Darragh McLoughlin – creates quirky abstract narratives in a minimal setting.
What both shows have in common is that they play with live special effects.
While Riuchi uses varying components from classic magic techniques to body effects and new technology, Squarehead Productions creates the illusion of time travel, glitches, déjà vu and stop-motion effects by making the audience open and close their eyes.
Riuchi won Best Performance and Best Lighting at Galway Fringe Festival 2014 and was recently named by The Arts Council Ireland as one of its Irish rising stars through the 16×16 Next generation artist bursary awards.
The Irish Times has described the show as “an intriguing synthesis of technology and a skilled and imaginative performer”
Squarehead Productions was awarded by the highly prestigious European circus programme Circus Next and won a special mention at the Be festival UK 2015.
