Paul Creane & the Changing Band play Monroe’s Live on Thursday, October 16. Hailing from Ireland and fronted by the Wexford-born songwriter, the group blends modern Americana/folk-country with a traditional Irish influence.

The core of the band is made up of Creane on acoustic guitar and vocals, and brothers Cillian and Lorcan Byrne on bass and drums, with multi instrumentalist ‘Footzy’ Byrne regularly joining them tour. In addition, the band has ‘honorary members’ who come in and out depending on the occasion. This extended musical family of instrumentalists includes violin, trumpet, dobro, banjo, mandolin and bouzouki. For that reason the group has chosen the name The Changing Band, reflecting the fact that there is a different line-up for each tour.

In 2011 the band members recorded their first album, entitled Tommy Black and the Twelve Days of Lucy, and spent the next year touring, taking in Ireland as well as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. They received honorary mentions in the finals of the International Unsigned Song-Writing Contest for their single, All For You Baby, which received national airplay in Ireland, and was also included in the Sounds of Ireland CD compilation in UK Music Week Magazine.

Their second album, The Clock, was released last February. The band say this has seen them polish and expand their approach, while retaining the atmospheric qualities of their first recording venture.

Doors at 11pm, admission €5.
