English pianist Mishka Rushdie Momen will give a solo recital at NUIG’s Emily Anderson Concert Hall next Tuesday night, February 15, as part of Music for Galway’s 40th anniversary programme. It starts at 8pm

This remarkable young performer was chosen as the nominee for the Breakthrough Award in Times Art Critics’ Awards for 2021, which are awarded by Sky Arts and The South Bank Show, which featured her in an episode of that arts programme in July.

She performs in recitals and concerto performances worldwide.

Four recitals she gave with cellist Steven Isserlis, which were streamed and broadcast live from London’s Wigmore Hall during the 2020-2021 season, were described as ‘compelling’ by the Times and ‘wonderful’ by the Telegraph.

Her Galway programme will be bookended by two distinct Fantasies from different composers and eras.

William Byrd’s pensive, elegant 16th century version will open the concert and it will close with Schubert’s dramatic Wanderer Fantasy from 1822.

Schumann’s romantic Impromptus, versions on a theme by his wife Clara, are at the core of the event, which also features Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives, Janacek’s In the Mists and the Irish première of Missy Mazzoli’s Heartbreaker.

Tickets for Tuesday’s show are €20/€18 /€6 for fulltime students of all ages and €16 for MfG Friends. They can be bought be leaving a message on 091705962 or online at musicforgalway.ie.
