SWISS ATHLETE CLAIMS GALWAY IRONMAN TITLE

Swiss athlete Mike Aigroz has been named Galway’s first Ironman.

He charged to the Salthill Park finish line with a time of 3 hours 48.

He was followed by Slovak Pavel Simko in second place and Irish participant Owen Cummins in third place.

In the women’s elite section, UK athlete, Lucy Gossage was first past the line.

She was followed by fellow British participant Rachel Joyce and Charisa Wernick from the USA.

An official ceremony will be held for the winners in the Galway Bay Hotel at half past six this evening.
